Recognizing Signs of Medical Emergencies

Accurately identify symptoms and signs of common medical emergencies in workplace settings.

BHV responders must quickly recognize when someone is experiencing a medical emergency. This includes identifying signs of heart attacks, strokes, severe allergic reactions, choking, severe bleeding, and loss of consciousness. Each condition presents differently and requires specific response protocols. Learning to distinguish between serious emergencies and minor injuries helps prioritize response efforts and prevents wasted time. Recognizing early warning signs—such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, facial drooping, or confusion—allows for faster intervention. Regular refresher training keeps these recognition skills current, as protocols may evolve and new information emerges.
