Make Empathy Operational

Convert empathy into specific evidence, interpretation, and action in a workplace decision.

Operational empathy is evidence -> interpretation -> action. Do not stop at labels such as frustrated, resistant, excited, or difficult. Labels are often too vague to improve a decision. Start with observable evidence: what did the person say, do, avoid, repeat, or react to? Then interpret the possible need or risk. Use careful language: "This may mean..." or "The risk is..." Finally, decide what changes. A channel changes, a sequence changes, a stakeholder gets brought in, a proof point gets added, or a promise gets avoided. This is why empathy remains high-value work.
